Founded in 1981 by Peter Cooper, the Peter Cooper Motor Group (PCMG) has grown from strength to strength and in 2021 celebrated 40 years in business. In 1981 Peter Cooper opened the doors of his first car showroom in Hedge End, Southampton. Peter's vision of creating a company based on employing the best local people who would deliver an unparalleled level of customer care meant the company quickly became a well-known name in Southampton. So much so the roundabout outside the business became a landmark and was locally named ‘Coopers Roundabout’. Peter's vision quickly grew to become a family run and owned legacy company, which came to fruition when his 31-year-old son Darren Cooper was appointed to the role of Managing Director in 2006. At this time the Group consisted of 3 Volkswagen franchises, a Body Repair Centre and approximately 100 staff.

Fast forward to 2023, Peter Cooper now has a workforce of just over 250 staff members, over 40,000 loyal customers and the group now operates 14 successful businesses across eight locations, from Bransgore in the New Forest, Shirley, Hedge End in Hampshire, Chichester and Horsham in West Sussex. With four Volkswagen franchised showrooms, 1 Viking Garages Kia Showroom, three Prestige Cars by Peter Cooper Used Car showrooms, three Bosch Service centres for vehicles of All Makes and Models, Peter Cooper Modifications for vehicle enhancements and modifications, Peter Cooper Leasing and a fully approved Volkswagen Audi Group Paint and Body Centre.
In 2021 Peter Cooper Motor Group launched a new business for electric vehicle charging point installations for home and businesses all over the south region called My Electric Vehicle Charge Point, (myEVCP). Later, in 2022 the group launched a Volkswagen Battery Care Centre, one of only a handful in the country accredited to diagnose, maintain and replace high voltage batteries used in all electric vehicles.
