It’s estimated that there are hundreds of thousands of homeless dogs and cats wandering the streets of Houston. In addition to the suffering homeless animals endure, the costs to our community are staggering. In some neighborhoods, children are afraid to go outside or to walk to school because they fear being attacked by a stray dog. Many of the elderly are also fearful and are prisoners in their own homes.

Our mission is to end homelessness and suffering of companion animals and elevate their status in society. We envision a world where companion animals do not suffer and are valued by society.

Through funding from individuals, corporate sponsors and with the cooperation of local governments, we believe the problem of animal homelessness is solvable. Through our Partnerships, Research, Events and Grants, we are already helping tens of thousands of homeless pets avoid being killed every year by placing them in new, loving homes. With your help, we can increase awareness of the problem, encourage our elected officials to get more involved, and most of all, raise the funds needed to protect the animals and solve the problem.

To date, Houston PetSet has provided over $3 million to more than 100 local organizations working “in the trenches,” impacting nearly 1 million animals.
In addition, since 2017, Houston PetSet has facilitated monthly transports of homeless animals to rescue partners in the Midwest. Since the program’s inception, the lives of nearly 3,000 otherwise unwanted animals have been saved.

As Houston PetSet believes spay and neuter is the long-term strategy to solving the homeless animal crisis, it partners with local service providers to create unique, hyper-local collaborations.

This strategy combines the strengths of each organization to address overpopulation and animal welfare. As a result, there will be fewer intakes at area shelters and fewer homeless animals on Houston’s streets.
