Phoenix Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance company with roots in the Black British community, founded in Leeds. It maintains a permanent company of dancers and operates from a shared building with a ballet company, a relatively uncommon arrangement in the sector. Since 2023, Marcus Jarrell Willis has served as Artistic Director, and the company tours national and international programs that include mixed repertoires. Beyond performance, the organization runs Learning & Development activities focused on accessible, high-quality dance education, guided by Nadine Senior OBE’s principles. It delivers more than 1,000 workshops each year, reaching over 6,500 people through weekly classes, Phoenix Youth Academies in Leeds, York, Doncaster, Sheffield, Gateshead, and Oldham, and bespoke schools’ packages aligned with cross-curricular or performance projects.
