Pongalo originated as a roll-up of Spanish-language content libraries led by Rich Hull and Avalanche! Capital, consolidating titles from groups such as Latin Anywhere, Manana Media, Latin Mex, Latin Media, and Inmoo to form a streaming service focused on global Spanish-speaking audiences. The platform began as a subscription offering and later migrated to an ad-supported model, ultimately growing into the leading Latino streaming option in the U.S. and Latin America with the largest catalog of Spanish-language films and TV shows from Latin America and Hollywood. In 2019, Pongalo merged with Discovery-backed VIX, and the service was rebranded as VIX; in 2021 the combined company was acquired by TelevisaUnivision, and the Pongalo service is now TelevisaUnivision's ViX. The organization has established distribution partnerships with Apple, Google, Roku, and Amazon, and has been a major supplier of Spanish-language content to Amazon Channels and The Roku Channel. Based in Los Angeles, California, the small team supported this evolution and the company was recognized as one of the 101 Best Startups in Los Angeles.
