Pontchartrain Conservancy is a non-profit, membership-based organization focused on protecting and restoring the water quality, coastline, and habitats of the Pontchartrain Basin, a large 10,000 square mile watershed spanning 16 Louisiana parishes. The group acts as an independent voice for the public, coordinating restoration efforts, education, advocacy, monitoring regulatory processes, and mobilizing citizen action in partnership with diverse community segments to safeguard the basin for present and future generations. Based in Metairie, Louisiana, the organization has a board drawn from basin parishes and regulatory agencies, and it emphasizes collaboration with local communities and stakeholders to address environmental challenges in a densely populated estuarine region that includes Lake Pontchartrain. Recent activity highlights include hosting a Storm Aware and Prepare event in New Orleans and engaging in partnerships to implement practical coastal stewardship programs in canals within New Orleans and Jefferson Parish, reflecting the group’s focus on hands-on conservation and community engagement.
