The Portland Mercury is a bi-weekly alternative newspaper based in Portland, Oregon, delivering a mix of candid opinion and investigative reporting that focuses on social justice and government accountability. Founded in 2000 as a sister publication to Seattle's The Stranger, it has earned national recognition for journalism, arts criticism, and design. Beyond its print edition, the Mercury maintains a robust online presence with a website, blog, and active social media, and offers specialty guides and ticketing services such as a Things To Do Calendar, a Portland Visitors’ Guide, and an Oregon Cannabis Guide.

The Mercury operates within the newspaper publishing industry as a regional alternative voice serving readers in Portland and the surrounding area, supported by a small-to-mid-sized team. A notable development in its recent history is a 2022 partnership with Earth Advantage to install cooling units in the homes of heat-vulnerable residents, reflecting community engagement beyond journalism.
