After working for ITT Development Company, the developer of Palm Coast, for eight years, the opportunity arose in 1995 when a 246-unit development was looking for a property management company. When founder Lea Stokes told ITT, they said they were not interested, so she decided to submit a proposal herself. They accepted her proposal, and that launched Preferred Management Services. Her business kept growing, and in 1997 she hired her first full time employee and rented her first office, located in the Golden Lion plaza on A1A. After five years, she moved the business to 109 South 6th Street and stayed there for eight years. In November, 2009, Stokes purchased a building, the original Flagler Beach post office building, at 411 South Central Avenue. There, it houses her current staff of 16. Preferred Management provides community association and commercial management services. They offer home monitoring and maintenance services, and professional maintenance for all types of minor repairs, home projects and property preservation. Some of the maintenance services available are commercial and residential pool maintenance, janitorial services, lawn maintenance and property preservation. The third division of Preferred Management Services is financial services. This includes professional bookkeeping, payroll services, and accounting for small businesses. Preferred Management’s portfolio includes over 4,000 residential units and 16 commercial parks. Lea is a licensed Community Association Manager, a licensed Real Estate Salesperson and a Certified Property Manager candidate through the Institute of Real Estate Management.
