Pretty Lake Camp is a non-profit organization based in Mattawan, Michigan, that has operated since 1916 to provide a cost-free summer camp experience for at-risk youth from Kalamazoo County. Each summer, the camp serves over 800 children, supplying all necessities for the session—such as clothing, toiletries, bedding, towels, food, transportation, and activities—at no expense to campers or their families. The organization focuses on developing life skills and helping youth cope with life’s challenges through adventure education and outdoor experiences, within a natural setting. Its mission emphasizes offering free programming to those likely to benefit most, expanding opportunities for youth and adults, and fostering environmental appreciation and stewardship. Pretty Lake Camp positions itself as a year-round community resource with the goal of becoming a premier youth-serving organization through compassionate mentoring and healthy relationships. A recent development noted is a collaboration with Kzoo Parks to operate day camps, reflecting a broader community engagement beyond its traditional residential camp model.
