Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise (PACE) is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit organization with a small staff of 2–10 employees, located at 603 Stanwix Street, Two Gateway Center Suite 1700, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. The organization provides grants and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, drawing on about five decades of capacity-building experience and a data-informed approach to address the needs of communities that have been marginalized. PACE was founded in 1968 in response to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil uprisings in Pittsburgh, formed through partnerships with United Fund and the Community Chest (forerunners of the United Way of Allegheny County), the Health and Welfare (Planning) Association, the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, and key African American leaders. Since its inception, PACE has provided over $15 million in grants and technical assistance to more than 450 nonprofit organizations in isolated and neglected areas of Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania. The mission is to advance a more equitable community by increasing the capacity of individuals, groups, and organizations that challenge injustice, and the organization envisions BIPOC communities thriving through sustained partnerships with healthy, community-based nonprofit organizations.
