Qatar Chemical Company Ltd., known as Q-Chem, is a Qatar-based integrated petrochemical producer located in Mesaieed Industrial City. It is jointly owned by Mesaieed Petrochemical Holding Company (49%), Chevron Phillips Chemical International Qatar Holdings LLC (49%), and QatarEnergy (2%), and it produces high-density and medium-density polyethylene as well as 1-hexene. The original plant began commercial operations in 2004, delivering HDPE capacity of 453,000 metric tons per year and a 1-hexene unit of 47,000 MTA, supported by utilities such as sulfur recovery, water treatment, a seawater cooling system, and dock facilities. A second facility, Q-Chem II, began operations in 2010 adjacent to the first and expanded HDPE capacity to 803,000 MTA to meet growing demand from customers in Asia, Europe, and Africa while introducing a full-range Normal Alpha Olefins unit with 345,000 MTA. Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC) is a related venture that involves Q-Chem II, Qatofin, and QatarEnergy and hosts a 1.3 million MTA ethylene cracker inaugurated in 2010, operated by Q-Chem I. In February 2024, Q-Chem announced a collaboration with SAP and IBM Consulting to implement RISE with SAP and migrate its operations to the cloud as part of its digital transformation.
