The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) is an independent body established in 2018 to guide Qatar’s free zone strategy and secure anchor investments. It aims to build a cluster of free zones that bolster economic development and attract foreign and domestic investment, underpinned by transparency and the rule of law. The organization is responsible for setting strategic direction and policy for the free zones and for cultivating a self-sustaining business ecosystem. Its current cluster comprises Ras Bufantas, the airport free zone, and Umm Alhoul, the port free zone, with its base in Doha, Ad Dawḩah, Qatar. In 2024, QFZ launched a Circular Economy Platform to facilitate material and waste trading and support sustainable supply chains. These actions reflect the authority’s broader mission to position Qatar’s free zones as strategic platforms for investment and economic activity.
