Range Mental Health Center (RMHC) is a mental health care provider located in Virginia, Minnesota, serving northern St. Louis County over a service area of more than 6,800 square miles. Established in 1961, RMHC was the first rural community mental health center in the United States and the first in Minnesota to provide services designed for persons with serious and persistent mental illness. The center offers a range of services including outpatient and psychiatric treatment, community support services, inpatient and outpatient addiction and detoxification services, homelessness programs, housing services, an assertive community treatment team, children’s community and school-based mental health programs, an eight-bed crisis stabilization unit, and a mobile crisis team. RMHC employs approximately 200 people and serves more than 5,000 adults, children, and families annually. The organization owns Perpich Apartments, a 27-unit building in Hibbing, Minnesota, to provide housing for individuals with severe mental illness and chronic homelessness.
