Real Food Challenge (RFC) is a national, student-driven nonprofit started in 2007 that seeks to reshape the food economy through a network of students and youth at campuses nationwide. It operates in the Food and Beverage Services industry and employs between 11 and 50 people. RFC uses the Real Food Standards and the Real Food Calculator to translate student mobilization into measurable outcomes and drive policy changes toward more equitable and sustainable food systems. The organization emphasizes regional supply chain justice, supports sourcing from diverse, organic, and BIPOC producers, and envisions universities as anchors for re-regionalizing value chains; the Real Food Standards version 3.0 aligns with partners such as the Center for Good Food Purchasing and Healcare Without Harm. RFC maintains a website at rfchallenge.org and invites participation from students, campus partners, and alumni.
