Release International began in 1968, inspired by the life of Pastor Richard Wurmbrand who had been imprisoned and tortured in communist Romania. Through his ministry, and Hebrews 13 verse 3, Release International has been called by God to Love and Serve persecuted Christians.
 
Today, hundreds of millions of Christians in more than seventy countries are being persecuted by those who want to destroy the witness of Christ.
 
Hebrews 13 verse 3 tells us to: “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”
 
Part of our response to the persecution of Christians is to work with indigenous partners around the world to prayerfully, pastorally, and practically help families of Christian martyrs, prisoners of faith and their families, Christians suffering oppression and violence, and Christians forced to flee.
