RenalSense is a medical device company dedicated to real-time renal diagnostics.  The company’s first-of-its-kind product, Clarity RMS, changes the practice of ICU and critical care management by providing continuous monitoring of urine flow for real-time assessment of renal function and early detection and prevention of ICU-acquired Acute Kidney Injury (AKI).

AKI - Current Medical Practice
Over 30% of critical care patients develop AKI, requiring an average three additional hospital days and $7,500 of additional hospital costs per patient. Mortality rates remain staggeringly high, approaching 83% in those patients with AKI requiring dialysis.  Current medical practice in the ICU is to assess kidney function manually and subjectively by measuring and reporting urine volume intermittently

Clarity RMS 
The end-to-end, fully automated Clarity RMS is the first commercially available product to facilitate early detection and prevention of ICU-acquired Acute Kidney Injury (AKI).  It consists of the following components:

•	Electronic Sensor - easily connects to a Foley catheter, where it continuously and reliably measures critical fluctuations in urine flow - the earliest indication of changes in renal function.  Automatic data collection and continuous transmission of digital information about renal function reduces labor and prevents human error associated with manual data collection and input.   

•	Console - consisting of embedded technology in a battery-powered bedside monitor, calculates and transmits the real-time data from the sensor directly to the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR), simultaneously displaying it graphically onscreen.

•	Intelligent Alarm System - alerts the medical team as soon as the patient’s urine flow rate is below the pre-set standard for minimum urine output/hour, based on the RIFLE, AKIN, and KDIGO criteria.
