Robi Axiata PLC is a telecommunications company based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with a workforce of 5,001 to 10,000 employees. It operates as a subsidiary of Axiata Group Berhad, with Bharti Airtel International (Singapore) Pte Ltd as the other shareholder. The company began operations in 1997 as Telekom Malaysia International (Bangladesh) under the Aktel brand, was rebranded to Robi in 2010, and merged with Airtel Bangladesh to commence commercial operation as Robi Axiata Limited on 16 November 2016. Robi is the second largest mobile network operator in Bangladesh, with 46.88 million subscribers as of December 2018, and had built a nationwide 4.5G network with about 7,400 sites covering 99 percent of the country’s thanas. Robi provides extensive international roaming with 398 operators across 182 countries and has a wide 4G roaming footprint in 29 countries with 40 operators, alongside introducing digital services and mobile financial services and conducting trials of 5G and Voice over LTE on its 4.5G network.
