Roskilde Festival is a non-profit organization that runs the largest culture and music festival in Northern Europe. Founded in 1971 and based in Roskilde, Zealand, the event is organized by the Roskilde Festival Charity Society, which operates without political affiliation and supports initiatives benefiting children and young people, as well as humanitarian and cultural work. The festival relies on a large volunteer network; during the event, about 30,000 volunteers staff stalls, build stages, and provide camping security. These volunteers largely come from local cultural organizations and sports associations, with clubs and societies running most stalls and contributing to the festival's intimate and varied atmosphere. In May 2026, Roskilde Festival announced a partnership with the University of Copenhagen to give young people a new kind of encounter with research.
