RPM Nautical Foundation, based in Gżira, Malta, advances nautical archaeology by locating underwater cultural heritage through the application of contemporary maritime surveying and investigation techniques. Its projects are carried out in partnership with host governments and contribute to protecting submerged archaeological sites and maritime heritage across the Mediterranean. Its approach combines remote sensing with on-site verification and documentation, and it supports deep-water excavation of sites where appropriate. To date, the organization has identified and mapped many underwater heritage sites dating from early antiquity through the 20th century, with field work extending across Spain, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Malta, Morocco, Cyprus, Italy (Sicily, Amalfi, and Calabria), Turkey, Tunisia, and Greece.
