Sacem, officially the Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique, is a private, non-trading organization that manages music authors’ rights in France. Based in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Île-de-France, it collects payments for the use of musical works and distributes royalties to original authors, composers, and publishers, while also running initiatives to support its members and promote cultural events. Its core customers are authors, composers, publishers, and other rights holders who rely on accurate compensation for the use of their work. In 2022, Sacem launched Musicstart through its URights subsidiary to help creators establish proof of anteriority for their compositions in minutes. The organization has a history of partnerships aimed at strengthening rights management, including a long-term alliance with IBM to develop URights.
