The Santa Clara County Fire Department is a California fire protection district providing fire protection and emergency response services to a set of communities in Santa Clara County, including Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga, as well as surrounding unincorporated areas. It operates within the public safety sector, aiming to protect lives, property, and the environment from fires, disasters, and emergencies through education, prevention, and response. The department serves as a municipal agency with a mid-sized footprint across these communities. In December 2023 it partnered with the Santa Clara Unified School District to identify local families in need. In April 2022, Suwanna L. Kerdkaew was appointed chief, becoming the first female fire chief in the department’s 75-year history. It also participates in youth education initiatives, including a 2023 partnership with NorCal First Alarm Girls Fire Camp to offer programs for high school girls and nonbinary youth.
