SAPREF is a joint venture between Shell SA Refining and BP Southern Africa. We are the largest crude oil refinery in Southern Africa with 35% of South Africa’s refining capacity. We are located in the city of Durban, on the east coast of South Africa
We process 24 000 tons crude per day and we make 10 main products in 46 different grades. We produce 2.7 billion litres of petrol per year, which is enough fuel to take 800 000 cars around the world. We have 160 000 km of pipe work (4 times around the world). We operate at temperatures of up to 700ºC and at pressures up to 120 bar. We have about 700 employees, 500 contractors and 208 learners at our refinery.
