Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a regional acute care facility serving Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma, providing a spectrum of services from emergency and critical care to medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health and addictions, rehabilitation, and complex continuing care. It also hosts the Algoma Regional Renal Program and the Algoma District Cancer Program, and opened a first-of-its-kind satellite radiation treatment suite at the time of the new integrated one-site hospital in March 2011. The hospital supports a catchment population of roughly 115,000 with a substantial staff, physicians, and volunteers contributing thousands of hours of service annually. Located in Ontario, SAH operates within the hospitals and health care industry and has established partnerships and programs with local organizations, including community collaborations such as artwork partnerships to improve patient wellbeing and initiatives to reduce emergency department crowding. In recent years SAH has continued to engage with the community and regional partners, including leadership changes and collaborative efforts to address health needs in the region.
