The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is a performing arts organization based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with roots dating to 1974 and recognized as one of Scotland’s five National Performing Companies. It presents a broad repertoire—from well-established classical works to newly commissioned pieces—and its performances travel across Scotland, to international venues, and through online platforms. The SCO also runs a Creative Learning program and a five-year residency in Craigmillar, intended to connect communities with music and expand access to participatory opportunities. The organization emphasizes both concert stages and community settings, reflecting its aim to use music to enrich lives through its musicians and staff. In recent years, Maxim Emelyanychev has served as Principal Conductor since 2019, with the tenure extended through 2028, and in 2026 the SCO formed a partnership with the University of Edinburgh to commemorate 300 years of Edinburgh Medical School.
