The Sam Houston Area Council, based in Houston, Texas, serves about 28,000 youth across 16 counties in southeast Texas. It relies on a large volunteer base—over 10,000 adult volunteers—to provide programs, services, and year-round outdoor activities. The council pursues its mission through values aligned with the Scout Oath and Scout Law, guiding youth toward duties to God, country, and community while fostering traits such as trustworthiness, loyalty, helpfulness, and bravery, and teaching practical skills like first aid and outdoor recreation. Its service area includes Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, and other counties in the region. In 2025, the council announced a STEM initiative developed in partnership with NASA to broaden high school students' access to science, technology, engineering, and math experiences.
