Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) has been a trusted connector and advocate for older adults since 1968. What began as a small, volunteer-run meals program has grown into a citywide nonprofit ensuring that seniors in Alexandria can age with dignity, independence, and connection. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to make sure every senior regardless of income, language, or mobility has access to nutrition, transportation, companionship, and information. SSA delivers impact through four core pillars: Nutrition: Meals on Wheels and Sponsored Meals on Wheels provide thousands of meals each year to homebound and low-income seniors. Companionship: Friendly Visitor, Friendly Caller, and AniMeals bring human connection and support to isolated seniors and their pets. Transportation: DOT Para-Transit coordination and ride programs connect seniors to critical appointments and community activities. Education & Outreach: The Senior Ambassador Program, Senior Academy, and Community Connection model at Claridge House engage seniors directly in their communities, offering tools, classes, and resources. SSA is more than programs, itβs a promise. We believe that every senior deserves not just to survive, but to thrive. From a daily meal and a friendly phone call to community connection model that fight isolation, SSA helps seniors rediscover purpose, belonging, and trust. When we lift up our elders, we create a stronger, more compassionate community for everyone. Because aging is the one experience that unites us all.
