The Shaw Institute is a nonprofit scientific research organization based in Blue Hill, Maine, established in 1990 by environmental health scientist Dr. Susan Shaw. It conducts independent studies focused on environmental health threats, examining topics such as human exposure to chemical contaminants, plastics and microplastics, marine wildlife exposure, oil spill response, and coastal monitoring in Maine and beyond. The Institute collaborates with researchers and institutions to generate data on chemical exposure and its impacts on wildlife and people, and it uses this information to inform public policy at national and international levels. In addition to its research program, the organization pursues strategic partnerships to broaden its reach and impact, including recent activity such as partnerships with local schools and organizations and participation in international scientific conferences.
