Established in 1934, the Shrine of Remembrance is Victoria’s national war memorial, honouring Australians who have served in war and peacekeeping. More than a place of remembrance, the Shrine is a leading cultural institution and award-winning tourism destination, attracting over half a million visitors annually. Our team of 30 full-time staff and dedicated volunteers deliver a diverse range of exhibitions, educational programs, and commemorative services, ensuring that stories of service and sacrifice continue to resonate with new generations. The Galleries of Remembrance house over 800 historical artefacts, artworks, and personal effects, providing a powerful connection to Australia’s military history. Set within a 13-hectare Reserve, the Shrine features the Eternal Flame, a breathtaking balcony view of Melbourne, and the weekly Last Post Service, held every Sunday at 4.45pm. Free entry and guided tours make it accessible to all. Proudly recognised as Australia’s leading cultural tourism destination, the Shrine was awarded Gold at the 2024 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards – Cultural Tourism. We welcome partnerships, collaborations, and passionate individuals who share our mission to honour service and inspire reflection. Connect with us to learn more.
