The Sibelius Academy is responsible for providing the highest level of music education in Finland. The Academy trains artists skilled in independent artistic work, highly-regarded pedagogues and other music professionals. In addition, it engages in research, performance and creative art, and is committed to the fostering and renewal of Finland’s musical culture and cultural heritage. The Sibelius Academy provides instruction at Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral levels, as well as youth and adult education in the form of Open University and Continuing Education. Doctoral study can be completed via one of the following pathways: Art Study Programme, Research Programme or the Development Study Programme. An individual study plan is drawn up for each student according to the guidelines and individual preferences of the student. In addition to education and research, artistic activities are one of the main missions of the Academy. The hundreds of concerts that are produced annually by the Sibelius Academy constitute a significant ratio of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area’s concert selection. In January 2013, The Sibelius Academy merged with The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and The Theatre Academy Helsinki to form The University of the Arts Helsinki.
