Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. is a national college fraternity and nonprofit organization founded in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute by James Frank Hopkins, Greenfield Quarles, and James McIlvaine Riley after Hopkins viewed a hazing incident and sought a different approach to brotherhood. The group upholds core values of love, honor, and truth, retains many military-inspired traditions, and emphasizes personal integrity while maintaining an anti-hazing stance. It operates through chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada and has initiated more than 227,000 members. Through its LEAD program, it supports ethical leadership development, and its Helping Hand Initiative channels philanthropic efforts, guided by a values-based recruitment approach.
