SISO is an international association for for-profit entities that own, produce, or provide full-service management of face-to-face events—such as trade shows, consumer shows, expositions, and conferences—as a substantial part of their business. It was established in 1990 when twelve independent show organizers met to discuss industry trends and the differences between for-profit and non-profit issues, creating a forum for regular networking and candid learning in a non-competitive environment. Its membership includes both large global corporations and smaller entrepreneurial firms from around the world, comprising around 200 member companies that collectively produce thousands of events and contribute to the global economy.
