The center supports local K-12 and university education and benefits from Sitka’s outreach environment, which includes a substantial summer influx of visitors.
In 2024, Sitka Sound Science Center partnered with Ocean Conservancy to remove large accumulations of marine debris from shorelines around Alaska, working with local partners such as the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe and Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation. As a regional hub in the research services field, the organization aims to facilitate access to research and education resources for researchers, educators, and communities in Southeast Alaska.
