Sling Media, founded in 2004, aims to bring together different media and device technologies to improve the user experience rather than replace existing hardware. Its Slingbox product turns any Internet-connected device into a home television, allowing people to watch TV from virtually anywhere. The Slingplayer software connects multiple devices to the Sling hardware, enabling centralized control of a wide range of audio-visual equipment in the living room. The company is headquartered in Foster City, California, and maintains an office in Bangalore, India. Its customers are digital media consumers seeking flexible, globally accessible television experiences with integrated control of home entertainment systems, a lineage that includes a 2007 acquisition by EchoStar. Over time, Sling Media expanded its offerings with milestones such as the 2013 Slingplayer for Roku and the 2017 SlingStudio multi-camera production system.
