The human body is an amazing machine. Its intricate, biomechanical inner-workings allow athletes to perform incredible feats of strength, speed, and athleticism. Despite its complexity, most injuries and dysfunctions can be attributed to a rather simple principle, first noted by Gray Cook. Essentially the human body is an alternating pattern of stability and mobility. Any alteration of this pattern will create dysfunction and compensation that can adversely affect an athlete’s performance and therefore potentially lead to injury. Our understanding of this principle, combined with the fact that all muscles and joints function 3-dimensionally, allows us to design individualized training programs to restore proper function where necessary and appropriate.
