Smashwords is a mid-sized book and periodical publishing services firm based in Los Gatos, California. In March 2022, it merged with Draft2Digital, creating what is described as the industry's leading publishing services firm, serving more than 250,000 authors and distributing over 1 million books. The company has a history of enabling authors to publish digitally, including launching an ebook publishing platform in 2018 that allowed writers worldwide to self-publish at no cost.

Smashwords is part of a broader ecosystem of ebook distribution and publishing services, with a recent development including a library distribution partnership with The Palace Project announced in February 2023. Inquiries regarding employment are directed to Draft2Digital after the merger, reflecting the integrated structure with the Draft2Digital entity.
