The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) is a nonprofit organization in the book and periodical publishing industry, founded in 1978 and based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. It promotes communication across the scholarly publishing community through networking, information sharing, and facilitation of new developments, with members spanning publishers, printers, e-products developers, technical service providers, librarians, and editors from both large and small organizations. SSP’s activities include annual meetings, IN Conferences, educational seminars, and Librarian Focus Groups to discuss trends and diverse goals. Its mission is to advance scholarly publishing and the professional development of its members through education, collaboration, and networking, and it aims to be a primary source of information and dialogue on current and emerging issues in scholarly communication. In 2024, SSP launched the SSP EPIC Awards to recognize achievements in scholarly publishing, information technology, and communications.
