The Society for Technical Communication (STC) was a nonprofit professional association dedicated to advancing the field of technical communication. It was the largest and oldest organization in its field, linking practitioners across industries and continents, with members in nearly fifty countries and growing beyond North America and Europe. Through its global network of chapters and special interest groups, STC organized educational events and set standards, while publishing two widely read journals, Intercom and Technical Communication, and hosting a major annual conference. Headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, the organization functioned as a mid-sized nonprofit. On January 29, 2025, STC announced it would file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and suspend all activity, rendering the organization inactive.
