Rain Drains – Oils Contained

Founded in 1991, SPI develops unique environmental products for industrial applications. SPI technology is a passive oil containment system which allows rainwater to drain but totally seals in the event of an oil spill. It is a proactive approach to stopping oil spills from escaping and contaminating waterways, wetlands, and groundwater. SPI has three U.S. and two Canadian patents, with other U.S. and foreign patents pending.

SPI offers several products for use in state-of-the-art spill containment systems. In addition to effectively trapping oil, SPI material will chemically react with oil, preventing any oil from being discharged from any of SPI’s spill containment systems and products. Many materials can be used to pick up or absorb oil, but only SPI offers materials of such performance and unique technical properties.

Over the years, thousands of our Petro-Barrier™, Petro-Pipes® and Petro-Plugs® have been installed across the United States, Canada, and throughout the world. As you look through this site you will see that our capabilities range from retrofitting storm drains for 100% oil spill containment to engineering and manufacturing custom products for a multitude of applications. All of our products have been proven in actual spills from cold to hot oil to a transformer explosion that subjected the Petro-Pipe to more three hours of fire: No oil, water or foam was released during or after the fire was extinguished.
