Its origins trace back to 1950, when a small group of employees from the North West Leather Company, known as the Ole Tannery, formed a credit union. It was reorganized as Soo Co-op Credit Union on November 17, 1958 with sponsorship from the Soo Cooperative Company, and restructured again after the sponsor ceased operations in 2015.
