Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, the South Florida Water Management District is a regional government agency focused on water resource management. It governs 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys, aiming to balance flood control, water quality, natural systems, and water supply. As the oldest and largest of Florida's five water management districts, the agency serves more than 9 million residents and leads Everglades restoration efforts. A notable development is a partnership with the Everglades Foundation to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Blue Shanty Flow-way Project, part of CEPP-South, which aims to reconnect the flow of clean freshwater from Lake Okeechobee through Water Conservation Areas 3A and 3B into Everglades National Park. This collaboration reflects the district's role in coordinating regional environmental restoration and water-management initiatives.
