South Ribble Borough Council is the local government authority serving the borough of South Ribble in Lancashire, England. It provides public services and governs planning, housing, and community facilities across about 113 square kilometres, serving roughly 110,000 residents and 50,000 dwellings. The council manages community assets and development projects such as Worden Hall, which is being upgraded to support small weddings and events, provide a space for local traders, and offer multi-use areas for office and educational use, and a new 3G playing pitch hub at Withy Grove Park with a modern pavilion. It has also begun work on the McKenzie Arms site to deliver affordable homes and has proposals to improve parks, open spaces, and smaller play areas. In addressing environmental goals, the council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and has set a target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, including a pledge to plant up to 110,000 trees across the borough, with more than 90,000 planted to date. The authority participates in regional collaborations and leadership arrangements with neighboring councils; for example, in June 2026 it appointed Chris Sinnott as joint chief executive for West Lancashire, Chorley, and South Ribble to support shared governance across the three authorities.
