South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue is a public-safety organization based in Sheffield, serving the South Yorkshire region. While it is best known for responding to fires, its remit spans a wide range of emergencies and special services, including road traffic collisions and water rescues, with a strong emphasis on prevention. The service employs a sizable workforce, the majority of whom are firefighters, supported by specialist teams and volunteers. Most wholetime firefighters are available to respond around the clock, with on-call firefighters at selected stations. Support staff provide expertise in community safety initiatives and the enforcement of business fire safety laws, while volunteers help extend prevention efforts.
