The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) is a nonprofit based in Nevada City, California, focused on protecting and restoring the Yuba River and the broader Yuba watershed. It traces its roots to a 1983 rural, grassroots effort to oppose hydropower dams on the South Yuba River. The organization mobilizes a community of members and volunteers and pursues river stewardship through advocacy, public education, and activism across the watershed. In 2025, SYRCL partnered with the U.S. Forest Service to launch the Salmon & Packer Creek Aspen Restoration Project within the Tahoe National Forest, aimed at revitalizing quaking aspen habitat. The nonprofit also conducts ongoing programs and events, such as the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, to support education and community engagement around watershed protection.
