The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is an organization focused on advancing racial justice through legal action, advocacy, and public education. Based in Montgomery, Alabama, it partners with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and promote the human rights of all people. Its work concentrates on four priority areas: protecting voting rights and civic engagement; eradicating poverty in Southern communities; dismantling white nationalism and protecting democracy; and decriminalizing and decarcerating Black and Brown people. In June 2026, the SPLC announced that its board had unanimously chosen Ryan Haygood as president and CEO, with the transition to begin later in the year. This leadership change reflects ongoing organizational activity as the SPLC continues its legal, advocacy, and public-education programs. The organization operates within the U.S. legal advocacy and civil rights landscape.
