Southgate Recreation & Park District is an independent special district in Sacramento County, founded in 1956 to provide park and recreation services across a 52-square-mile area in the southeast portion of the county. It serves more than 134,000 taxpayers and operates a network that includes 47 parks, 7 community centers, 2 aquatic facilities, a golf course, and various parkways and landscape corridors, supported by a governance structure led by a five-member Board of Directors elected from local divisions. The district is organized into Administration, Parks, Recreation, and Golf divisions; the latter operates WildHawk Golf Club, while the other divisions manage facilities, programs, and administrative functions to deliver safe, attractive open spaces and recreational opportunities. A notable recent development is the district receiving a substantial investment to acquire near 9 acres of land, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand and enhance local park and recreation assets in the region of Sacramento.
