Southgate Recreation & Park District (the District) is an independent special district established in 1956 under the Public Resources Code.  The District provides park and recreation services to over 134,000 taxpayers in the southeast area of Sacramento County.  The District encompasses 52 square miles and includes 47 parks, 7 community centers, 2 aquatic facilities, a golf course and many parkways and landscape corridors.

A five-member Board of Directors governs the District.  The Board members are elected from five geographic divisions within Southgate Recreation & Park District’s boundaries.  Directors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.  The Board assigns District administrative responsibilities to a General Manager.  The General Manager is responsible for implementing the policies of the District and is also the Finance Officer.  The Finance Officer is responsible for installing and maintaining the system of auditing and accounting that shall completely, at all times, show the financial condition of the District.  

There are four divisions organized by function:  Administration, Parks, Recreation and Golf.  The Administration division administers accounting, budgets, payroll, human resources, planning, capital development, computer support and general administration of the District.  The Parks division maintains the parks and facilities owned by the District.  The Recreation division manages recreation programs and the maintenance of the community centers.  The Golf division operates WildHawk Golf Club.  All departments work cooperatively to accomplish the mission of Southgate Recreation & Park District.  The mission is a commitment to provide positive recreational opportunities, safe and attractive parks and open spaces, resulting in a healthier community.
