Spaceworks is a nonprofit cultural community development organization dedicated to expanding the supply of long-term, subsidized rehearsal and studio space for all New Yorkers.

NYC’s cultural vitality relies on its capacity to serve as a home for artistic and creative expression. Yet the high cost of studio and rehearsal space makes the development and production of work increasingly challenging for New Yorkers. In recognition of the need for a systematic, city-wide approach to this issue, Spaceworks was started as initiative of the Department of Cultural Affairs in 2011.

Our hybrid role as an arts services and community development organization enables us to more deeply serve our mission by not only providing space to create and engage, but also access to professional resources and services across multiple artistic disciplines. We build trust-based relationships with community partners and members to deliver free and subsidized programming to artists and neighborhood residents.
