SportsAid is a UK charity operating in the spectator sports sector, providing financial grants to support the training and competition costs of young British athletes. Each year it supports more than 1,000 competitors, most of them aged 12 to 18, with typical awards around £1,000 funded through commercial partnerships, trusts, charitable funds, and fundraising. Athletes are nominated by national governing bodies across more than 60 sports, creating a direct line from governing bodies to promising talent who often rely on family funding. In addition to financial assistance, SportsAid offers development opportunities such as mentoring from Olympians and Paralympians and workshops on performance lifestyle, sport psychology, nutrition, media storytelling, and sponsorship; it also manages the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and the Backing The Best programme on behalf of Sport England. Based in London, the charity has distributed over £50 million since its founding in 1976, and its alumni include prominent British Olympians and Paralympians; in May 2025 it announced a partnership with UK Anti-Doping to strengthen safeguarding and empowerment for young athletes.
