SRO Housing Corporation is a nonprofit developer and manager that converts distressed properties in downtown Los Angeles into contemporary studio apartments, reflecting a three-decade history of work in the area. Its focus is the Central City East community known as Skid Row, where it has built more than 2,300 affordable housing units and established itself as a major housing provider. The organization’s portfolio includes the renovation of historic structures, such as converting the 1923 Rosslyn Hotel Apartments into a mixed-use complex with on-site supportive services. The Rosslyn project, now its 30th residential property, preserved historic architectural features while adding ground-level retail and housing across 264 units designed for homeless and low-income residents. In 2019, SRO Housing Corporation announced the development of the 57-unit Rise Apartments at 4050 South Figueroa Street, a project led with Highridge Development Co. as developer and Alpha Construction Co. as general contractor.
