St. Benedict's Preparatory School was founded by Benedictine Monks in 1868 and is one of the oldest and most successful urban schools in the country. Throughout its 155-year history, the Catholic school has educated a rich variety of successive immigrant groups and the local community in and around Greater Newark. It now educates nearly 1,000 students, primarily of African-American and Latino heritage, in grades K through 12. Visit www.sbp.org/60Minutes to learn more. Whatever hurts my brother hurts me. This school motto is an integral part of the education offered 11 months of the year to young men in grades 7 through 12 - an education of the mind, spirit, and heart. From the classroom to the athletic field to the site of their latest community-service project, students of our more than 140-year-old institution prepare not just for college, but also for undertaking responsibilities of their own families, faith communities, and leadership roles in a variety of professions and in the communities beyond our Newark, NJ school. The school is also featured on 60 Minutes - March 20, 2016. Click here for preview: http://www.sbp.org/60Minutes
