St. Scholastica Monastery is an active Benedictine women’s community in Duluth, Minnesota, perched on a hill overlooking Lake Superior. Founded in 1892, the community pursues its life of prayer and work with about 75 members, including several in initial formation. Most Sisters reside at the monastery, with lay staff supporting daily operations and the wider Benedictine mission carried through its sponsored organizations. The Sisters engage in a broad range of ministries, including health care, education at college and elementary levels, spiritual direction, retreat ministry, chaplaincy, service to the poor, environmental care, and the arts. They founded and sponsor the College of St. Scholastica and the Benedictine Health System, and the hospitals started in their early years are now Catholic facilities sponsored within Essentia Health. Leadership of the community is held by Prioress Sister Beverly Raway, O.S.B.
